Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

MyPassportStory ("the app", "we", "our") helps you keep a personal record of the countries and cities you have visited, and turn that record into images you can share. This policy explains what information the app touches, where it actually lives, and what that means for you.

The short version: MyPassportStory does not run a server or database of its own. Everything you enter lives on your own device and, if you choose to back it up, in a private folder in your own Google Drive account. We never receive, store, or have access to a copy of your travel data.

1. Information accessed through Google Sign-In

Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in with Google, the app requests:

This information is requested directly from Google's own sign-in system and passed straight to your device — it is never routed through, or stored on, any server we operate.

2. Where your travel data actually lives

We do not operate any servers, databases, or cloud storage of our own for user data. There is no third copy anywhere that we control.

3. Delete your account and data

MyPassportStory has no account or server of ours to delete — there's nothing to email or file a request for. You're always in direct control of your own data and can remove any part of it immediately:

Deletion is immediate — MyPassportStory has no server-side copy to expire or retain on any schedule. Once you uninstall the app and remove Drive access, nothing about you or your travels remains anywhere we could access.

4. What we don't do

Data loss and backups — please read. Because MyPassportStory keeps no server-side copy of your data, you are solely responsible for your own backups. If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or has the app uninstalled without a Drive backup having been made — or if a backup or restore attempt fails for any reason, including issues with your own Google account, Google Drive, network connectivity, or device storage — we are not able to recover your data, and we accept no liability for data that is lost, corrupted, or not restorable. We strongly encourage using the "Back up now" feature regularly if your travel history matters to you.

5. Website analytics

The website at mypassportstory.com - including the web version of the app you may be using right now in a browser - uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. This is separate from the native iOS and Android apps, which include no analytics or tracking of any kind - the statement above applies to those in full.

Google Analytics collects standard web-traffic information: which pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location (derived from IP address, not GPS), and your browser/device type. It sets cookies to do this and only measures that the site was visited - it does not see or record anything you do inside the app itself, such as marking a country or building a trip. This data is processed by Google under its own Privacy Policy, and we use it only in aggregate, to understand traffic to the site.

6. Your rights (GDPR — EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you're located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights to access, correct, delete, and export your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. In practice, because your data lives entirely on your own device and in your own Google Drive, you already hold all of it directly — see "Delete your account and data" above for the exact steps. The only personal data processed through a system we don't control is what Google itself provides during sign-in, which is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.

7. Your rights (CCPA — California residents)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale. As described above, we do not sell personal information, and we do not hold a copy of your data to disclose or delete on our end — it lives on your device and in your own Drive account, under your control.

8. Other regions

Wherever you're located, the same basic fact applies: your travel data is stored locally on your device and, optionally, in your own Google Drive account — never on infrastructure we operate. Because we don't transmit or store your data ourselves, there is no cross-border transfer of it under our control; any transfer of your Google Account data is governed by Google's own policies and safeguards.

9. Children's privacy

MyPassportStory is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Google Sign-In itself is subject to Google's own age requirements.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
